What are the religious beliefs in Tudor England?
Protestant: Protestants challenged the old Catholic beliefs. Their churches featured plain walls and wooden alters.
Catholic: Catholic Churches featured colourful images and decorated alters.
Puritans: extreme Protestants, who wanted to take the reformation further.

Religious issues?
Elizabeth was Protestant but disliked the extremism of puritans. And most of the north of England were Catholic and didn’t want to change their faith
How was England divided religiously?
Elizabeth was Protestant, along with some of the south, however rural areas like the north and east were still very Catholic and could rebel if Elizabeth banned Catholicism
Europes religious division:
European superpowers: Spain and france were strongly Catholic, threatened to invade if England did not return back to Catholicism,
However places like the Netherlands(Protestant) needed Elizabeth’s help
Elizabeth’s religious settlement:
Protestant: Elizabeth was head of the church not the pope, all churches had to have an English bible.
Catholic: Churches could be highly decorated and priests had to wear vestments

These were called recusants, and these people were fined If they did not go to church every Sunday
