Q

How did Herschel carry out the experiment for infrared radiation?

A

She found it out while experimenting with sunlight and a prism.
When a white light goes through a prism in creates a spectrum of colours, he wanted to know the amount of heat in each of the colours so he used a thermometer to do this. He then saw they increased from violet to red. He then measured the temperature just past the red part of the spectrum where there was no visible light , he found that it was the highest temperature this is when he discovered infrared light.

Q

How did Ritter carry out his experiments?

A

He began t find out if he could fin anything on the other side of the spectrum beyond violet, by doing this he knew silver chloride turned from white to black when exposed to light. So he decided to measure how quickly silver chloride strips changed when exposed to different colour of light. The strips changed colour quicker when exposed nearer to the blue end of the spectrum. He then placed a strip in the area just past the violet part of the spectrum here is where he saw the quickest change of all. Ritter had discovered ultraviolet radiation and invisible light that exists on the other side of the spectrum.

Q

what waves are the electromagnetic waves?

A
