Electricity Flashcards
What is current?
Current is the rate of flow of electric charge, measured in amperes (A) by an ammeter
What is charge?
Charge is the flow of electrons through an electric circuit, measured in coulombs (C)
What is potential difference?
Potential difference or voltage is the driving force that pushes the charge around, measure in volts (V) by a voltmeter
What is resistance?
Resistance is anything in the electrical circuit which slows the charge flow down, measured in ohms (Ω)
What equation links charge, current and time?
I = Qt Current = charge x time
What is the equation for resistance, voltage and current?
Voltage = current x resistance V = IR
What equation links potential difference, charge and energy transferred?
Voltage = energy transferred/charge V = E / Q
Does the current and voltage stay the same or split in a series circuit?
Current stays the same, voltage splits
Does the current and voltage stay the same or split in a parallel circuit?
Current splits evenly (depending on resistance) voltage stays the same
