Electric Current And Power Flashcards
Define current.
Current is the rate of flow of charge. It is how many coulombs pass a point every second. It is measured in amps (A/I)
What is voltage?
Voltage is the amount of energy that is given to each coulomb. The electrical pressure that makes the current flow, it is measured in volts (v= Potential difference).
If the voltage is increased what would happen to the current?
In order to maintain the same amount of power , if the voltage was increased the current must be decreased.
Describe how AC current moves.
An Alternating current constantly changes direction.
Describe how DC moves.
A direct current moves only in one direction.
What is power a measure of?
Power is a measure of how much energy is transferred every second. It is measured in watts (w) of Joules per second (J/S)
What is the equation needed to figure out the amount of power if you have the information of voltage and current?
Power= voltage x current
P
VxI
What is the equation needed to calculate energy i you have the units of time and power?
Energy= Power x Time
E
PxT
What is another name for voltage?
Potential difference.
