36 inches with clear width of 32 inches min. ; 80 in min. height; 48 in max. width of swinging doors

- must be pivoted or side-hinged
- must swing in the direction of travel when > 50 occupant load or group H occupancy.
- must not swing into a required path by > 7 in
- doors can be recessed to avoid this issue

A
- 1 exit ( up to max. occupant load )
- 2 exits ( more than max. occupant load )
- 4 exits ( more than 1000 occupants )

- 1/2 - non-sprinklered bldg ( of max. overall diagonal dimension )
- 1/3 - sprinklered bldg
- 3 or more exits are required : 2 must follow the half diagonal rule

required to have:
- Automatic sprinkler system
- Smoke detectors and alarms
- Communication systems at areas of refuge
- Central control stations for fire department use
- Smoke control for exit stair enclosures
- Standby power systems
