Edward VI
- Only male heir of Henry VIII
- Assumes throne at 9 and dies at 1`5.
- Was intelligent and received “renaissance education”
- Was a stubborn and idealistic piece of shit.
Education and Radical Protestantism (Zwingli)
- Radical protestentism the belief that protestantism should be in charge of everything (theocracy).
- the reformation should be enforced WITH force.
The Regency Council
-They were the group that was basically in charge (the regents) of Edward VI and was headed up by the main regent EDWARD SEYMOUR “the good duke”
The “Good Duke”
- Edward Seymour, who was Edward VI’s regent aka lord protector. Killed his own brother Thomas because he was trying to take control of the young king.
- had a foreign policy of warfar.
The “Rough Wooing”
-Was when Lord Protector Edward Seymour battled while trying to force Princess of Scotland to wed Edward IV. Scotland retracted and gained protection from French and married her to King of France.
The Book of Common Prayer, 1549
- a set of guidelines and instructions for liturgy and how to conduct religious services. was very protestent in nature.
The Western Rebellion and Kett’s Rebellion
-Western Rebellion was huge uprising in response to major protestant reformations and Ketts rebellion was more in response to a lack of attention being given to the socio economic problems.
The “Evil” Duke, John Dudley Duke of Northumberland
-Ends up overthrowing Edward Seymour during Kett’s rebellion.
Continental Radicals and Iconoclasm
Continental radicals were those who wanted a full on Svingli reformation and Iconoclasm was the desire to tear down all imagery of catholicism.
