Why were Stephen Gardiner and Thomas Howard removed from council?
Stephen Gardiner and Thomas Howard were removed from the privy council and will have no say in Edward’s minority. These men were removed from the council by Henry however from extreme pressure from the reformists.
What does DRS stand for?
D- dept- deficit, inflation due to Henry’s war
R- religious uncertainty- not clear how many people were devout protestants or catholics
S- stability- Privy chamber had established itself, the administration of government was more efficient, less lawlessness and succession was secure

Thomas Howard was the Duke of Norfolk. He was a Catholic supporter that was removed from the privy council.

Was a Catholic Bishop that was removed from the privy council.
Who was Thomas Wriothesley?
Was given the title of the 1st Earl of Southampton. He was pro catholic however Seymour used him to be seen as supporting Catholics as well as reformists
Problems with a minor on the throne
- People no longer idolised monarchy due to Lord protector (divine right of Kings)
- Many didn’t want a minor on the throne, reducing stabilty
- Foreign countries may see Britain as weak, not as strong as Henry’s
- Edward’s council had factions that he would struggle to control.
