Ecosystems Flashcards
Where do the lines of latitude pass through
West and east
Where do the line of longitude pass through
North and south
What factors do the different ecosystems rely on
Temperature, precipitation and geology
What local factors affect ecosystems
Altitude, geology, drainage, slopes
What do all systems have
Inputs- processes- output
What are products
Things that are taken out
What are services
Things that occur on site
What happens during the nutrient cycle
Leaves fall and decompose into the soil and release their nutrients so the tree can absorb them
What is the ITCZ
The inter tropical conversion zone where two Hadley cells converge
What are some characteristics of the TRF
Wet and hot
Located around the equator
High rain fall
Very thin soil profile
What are some characteristics of the TDF
Evergreen trees Located in the northern hemisphere Dry and cold Low rainfall Good soil brown earth
Name the layers of a TRF
Shrub layer
Under layer
Canopy
Emergent layer
What is eutrophication
Large amount of algae blooms from pollutants from farms. This stops photosynthesis occurring which kills animals
What does leaching mean
Loss of nutrients
How have strangle figs adapted to the rainforest
They climb up other trees to reach the sunlight but at the same time they strangle them and try to kill them to just leave the fig
