Ecosystems Flashcards
What’s a biotic factor
All the living things in and ecosystem
What’s and abiotic factor?
All the non-living things
Role of micro organisms
Dead organism body broken down into substances pass into air, water or soil
Structural adaptations
Way organisms are built e.g. light fur to blend in
Physiological adaptations
How organism works e.g. mammals produce milk to feed young
Behavioral adaptations
Something animals do to increase survival chance e.g. bouncing makes kangaroos travel fast, helps in drought
Effects of extreme weather on aussie ecosystems
In fire kills mature trees, takes vegetation diversity, reduce food for wildlife.
Producer
Grass is producer of food web, using photosynthesis make own food using energy from sun
Consumer
Kangaroos feed on grass
Decomposer
Break apart dead organisms making nutrients for primary producer
How do humans effect food webs
Hunting and killing, pollution, deforestation
Importance of maintaining diversity in ecosystem
Without alot of animals and plants we can’t rely on ecosystems that provide us with food and air.
Water cycle
Evaporation, condensation, precipitation, runoff
Atmosphere
Air, includes nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide
Lithosphere
Soil
