Aquifer
An underground reservoir of water contained within a porous, water-bearing rock layer.
Arable
Land fit for cultivation by farming.
Contiguous
To be in contact with, adjoining, or adjacent to something else.
Continental Drift
The slow movement of continents because of plate tectonics.
Delta Alluvial
Lowland at the mouth of a river where it makes contact with the ocean.
Desert
An arid land without vegetation getting less than 10in of rain.
Equator
Zero degrees latitude, with warm climates.
Erosion
The wearing away of land by water, wind, human activity, and moving ice.
Fjord
Narrow, steed-sided, elongated coastal valley created by glaciers.
Gross National Product (GNP)
The total value of all goods and services produced by a nation in a year.
Gulf
A body of water surrounded by water on all sides.
High Seas
Areas of ocean away from land, beyond national jurisdiction, open for all to use.
Infrastructure
The institutions of a society; facilities, social services, roadways, etc.
Isthmus
A narrow link between two larger landmasses.
Ex: Panama
Megalopolis
Large, coalescing super cities appearing all over the world.
Ex: The East Coast between Boston and DC.
