ECM Flashcards
What are some advantages of RCIEDs?
Optimum time of initiation. No physical link between bomb and bomber. Choice of firing point can be change rapidly.
What is ECM?
The transmission of high-powered radio energy to inhibit the attack signal and or control the receiver ( deceptions). The bottom line is to prevent the initiation of the RCI ED or possible RC secondary devices
What are two ECM inhibition techniques?
Active and reactive or intelligent
What is a characteristic of an active ECM s?
Active inhibition involves constant transmission. It is very effective at at defeating low-power threats, but it spreads its power across the entire bandwidth.
What are some characteristics of a reactive ECM?
It listens to sensitive receiver and when it hears a threat signal it transmits an attack signal and focuses the high-power on that threat
What are some advantages and disadvantages of reactive ECM?
Reactive ECM puts available power dirrectly on the threat, and has a low exploitation risk because of it’s intermittent transmission.
Reactive ECM receivers may not be sensitive enough to detect low-power threats.
What are some advantages and disadvantages Of the active ECM?
Constantly transmits on all programmed frequencies, can you defeat multiple threats simultaneously, but very effective at defeating low-power threats.
What should you do if you identify a command initiated device?
Never make a manual approach.
What is the primary response in taking control of it RCI ED?
Remote physical disruption.
What information is vital to the FBI ECM notification process?
The location of the incident including GPS coordinates.
What are three components of the incident Cmdr. Brief for activation because of ECM?
The possibility of detonation, the loss of communications, and the RF radiation hazards associated with the unit.
