What are the four major components of the basal ganglia?
A
- Neostriatum (receives major inputs)
- Globus pallidus (outputs)
- Substantia Nigra
- Subthalamic Nucleus

The neotriatum receives input for the basal ganglia. What cells receive this input?
A
spiny neurons (also primary output neurons)
Most use GABA as their transmitter (2 groups):
- GABA/substance P (SP)
- GABA/enkephalin (ENK)
