Earth and Space Science Flashcards
What is the Big Bang theory?
Infinitely hot and dense point expanded into the entire universe and continue to expand
What evidence is used to prove the theory of the Big Bang?
- The universe expanding faster and faster (Redshift)
- Cosmic microwave background
- Gravitational Waves
Why do the different phases of the moon happen?
The moon rotates and are in different locations in relation to the earth and the sun, making different parts bright and making the phases
The difference between solar and lunar
Solar is moon in front of sun, lunar is earth in the middle
What are Spring and neap tides?
The long-term waves in the ocean caused by the moon and the sun
What causes tides?
Moon and Sun pull up the water in the ocean, making tides
Why Spring and Neap tides happen?
Spring is moon and sun are aligned and together, making stronger tides
Neap tides is when moon and sun are perpendicular, making weaker tides
What is the temperature of the core of the sun?
The hottest part of the sun at 15,000,000 degrees Celsius
What is the temperature of the photosphere?
The surface of the sun at 5,500 degrees Celsius
What is the temperature of the chromosphere?
The atmosphere of the Sun at 60,000 degrees Celsius
What is the doppler effect?
The Change in frequency you hear when the source (Ambulance truck) and the observer (you) are moving relative to each other.
What does the sun give off?
- UV Radiation
- Visible Light
- Infrared Radiation
