Early embryonic development Flashcards
what is the final stage of cleavage/compaction?
morula
what is bastogenesis?
compaction occurs as cell division occurs. there is no increase in overall size of the embryo while inside the zona pellucida
what is a trophoblast and what does it form?
outer cell mass of blastocyst. forms fetal part of placental membranes
what is an embryoblast and what does it form?
inner cell mass of blastocyst. forms bilaminar disc of epiblast and hypoblast; establishes dorsal and ventral axis
what induces neural tube development from the neural ectoderm?
notochord
where is the presumptive notochord located and what is its origin?
located in or above endoderm but of mesodermal orign
what are the steps for neural tube formation?
neural endoderm thickens, neural folds dip down producing neural groove, neural folds contact, neural ectoderm cells rearrange and form neural tube
what are neural crest cells?
transient, multipotent, migratory cell population unique to vertebrates that give rise to a diverse cell lineage including melanocytes, craniofacial cartilage and bone
mesoderm is named for its relation to what section of body?
transverse
what does the somatic mesoderm form?
connective tissue and smooth muscle
what does the intermediate mesoderm form?
most urinary and reproductive system tissues
what does the splanchnic mesoderm form?
forms all tissues of cardiovascular system
in somites, what does the dermatome form? myotome? sclerotome?
dermis. skeletal muscles. axial skeleton
other cartilage and bones of the body and limbs are formed from where?
lateral plate mesoderm
what establishes the dorsal and ventral axis?
embryoblast
