Early Embryogenesis Flashcards
Define capacitation
Secretion from the uterus wall and uterine tube destabilize the plasma membrane surrounding the acrosome resulting in the membrane becoming more fluid which helps prepare the spermatozoa for the events of fertilization.
What are the results of fertilization ?
- restoration of the diploid number of chromosomes
- the zygote contains a new unique genome
- determination of the sex of the new individual
- initiation of cell division
what is hCG and its function ?
HCG means human chorionic gonadotropin. It maintains the corpus Luteum which suppresses the menses. It is secreted by the trophoblast.
Notochord definition
It’s a midline structure that develops from the primitive pit between the primitive streak and the prochordal plate.
Cells of the primitive nod invaginate into the primitive pit to form a solid chord of cells called the notochordal complex.
The notochordal complex get canalized to form notochordal canal.
Definition of neurulation
It marks the beginning of the formation of the central nervous system and is the process whereby the neural plate becomes the neural tube.
What is the function of neural crest ?
These cells contribute to the creation of the peripheral nervous system.
