Dynamics Flashcards
What is a vector?
A vector quantity has magnitude and direction
What is a scalar?
A scalar quantity has magnitude only
What is the vector for the scalars speed, distance, time, energy and mass?
Velocity, displacement, force, acceleration and there is none for mass
What are the two ways can direction be given?
Using a compass to give headings
Or
Using three figure bearings
What is displacement?
Displacement tells you how far away you are in a certain direction
What is Newton’s first law?
An object at rest will remain at rest or will remain at a constant speed in a straight line unless acted on by an unbalanced force.
What is Newton’s second law?
force=mass X acceleration
F= N
a= ms^-2
m= kg
If an unbalanced force is applied to a mass it will accelerate
