- when a person experiences mental illness and substance use issues
- Sometimes called comorbidity or concurrent disorders

- 35-65% of people with a Mental Health Service have a history of / are currently presenting with problematic substance use.
- 55 -75% of clients of Alcohol & Drug Services may have a history of a mental illness.
- Dual Diagnosis in adolescent clinical psychiatric populations has been reported to be as frequent as 50% - 71%
