DSN/LAN/IP phones (avaya nortel) Flashcards
LAN Port (labeled “LAN” or “Network”): This port (back of the phone) connects the phone to your local network (either through a PoE switch or a router). Avaya 1220 phone
PoE Switch: If you’re using a PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch, the phone will receive both network connectivity and power through a single Ethernet cable
–> The Ethernet cable goes from the phone’s LAN port to one of the PoE-enabled ports on the switch. // The PoE switch is then connected to your router or network infrastructure, allowing the phone to communicate with the IP-PBX or VoIP server (like Avaya Aura or CS1000 for Nortel)
Non-PoE Switch: If your switch or router does not support PoE, you’ll need a separate AC power adapter to provide power to the phone. In this case
The Ethernet cable still connects from the phone’s LAN port to the switch for network connectivity.
You’ll then connect the phone to a power source using the appropriate power adapter (typically 48V DC)
Phone Configuration
Once connected to the network via the PoE switch or router, the phone will power on and attempt to obtain an IP address from a DHCP server.
The IP address allows the phone to communicate with the IP-PBX (Private Branch Exchange) or SIP server, enabling it to handle VoIP calls
ethernet & dock station DSN setup = Identify the Ethernet Ports
On the DSN phone, locate the ethernet cable and LAN port on the back of the device. This port is used to connect the phone to the network.
On your HP Dock station, identify an available Ethernet port (usually labeled “Ethernet” or depicted with a network icon). This port will connect your dock to the local area network
Take one end of the Ethernet cable (preferably CAT5e or CAT6 for better performance) and plug it into the LAN port of the DSN phone.
Connect the other end of the same Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port of the HP Dock station.
ethernet & dock station DSN setup = Connect the Laptop to the Dock
Your HP laptop can connect to the dock using a compatible interface (like USB-C or Thunderbolt).
Network Configuration:
Once connected, both the DSN phone and the laptop should automatically obtain IP addresses from your network’s DHCP server, allowing them to communicate with other devices on the network.
If you have VLAN configurations set up on your network, ensure the phone and dock are properly configured to communicate on the correct VLANs for voice and data
