Q

What is a clone?

A

A clone is an exact copy of a person created in a medical facility or lab. They have the exact same DNA and can be many years apart in age. The only people on the planet with the exact same DNA are identical twins; which occur naturally, and are the same age.

Q

Describe Bethany’s life before she started approaching her 13th birthday.

A

Her parents dotted on her; they were very protective of her. They were always there to play with her, talk to her and take her to school. They were home when she got home, had all the protective equipment for anything she did (bike helmets and knee pads, etc.) and never left her with a babysitter.

Q

What are some clues that support the idea that Bethany is a clone?

A
  1. Her mother “just has feeling” that she will need glasses in second grade before she even goes to the doctor.
  2. Her parents hover around her in the pool, waiting for her to slip and go underwater like Elizabeth.
  3. Myrlie knows what Bethany’s favorite foods are (fruit loops cereal for example)
  4. All of the vintage toys she played with as a child – were really Elizabeth’s not vintage.

Q

Why does Bethany have a different last name, in fact, four different birth certificates with four different last names?

A

She is a clone. There were four clones created in the medical facility. Each needed a different ‘mom’. Three of the ‘moms’ were strangers and one was Hillary (Elizabeth’s mom). Each of the clones had been born and had a birth certificate, but the other three clones died within the first 24 hours of their birth. Bethany was the only clone to survive.

Q

How does Bethany’s life change as she approaches her 13th birthday?

A

Her mother begins crying more and more. (She is crying because she believes Bethany will die soon, like Elizabeth did. Bethany doesn’t know this at the time.) Her dad becomes more and more withdrawn. (Dalton Van Dyne is after them, so he is very preoccupied for their safety, but again Bethany doesn’t know this at the time either.) Her parents take her to her aunt’s house (Myrlie) to stay for a while, but she doesn’t know about any family. As far as she knows, she has no family.

Q

Who is Dalton Van Dyne?

A

Dalton Van Dyne was Bethany’s father’s employer. He paid Walter to clone him. He spent the last 13 years wondering about his clone, how he was doing, if he was having a good childhood. He paid Walter a lot of money and then he was put in jail for embezzling. Walter thought he would stay in jail, but he was released and came looking for Walter to find his clone. It was about that time that Walter had the opportunity to clone Elizabeth’s frozen cells. Walter decided to clone her instead of Dalton Van Dyne.
