Q

Primase

A
  • lays RNA primers on the leading and lagging strand

- has to be done for DNA pol III can work

Q

Dna pol III

A
  • Elongates new strands complementary to the leading strand(continuously) and the lagging strand(discontinuouslsy) in the 5’-3’ direction
  • the fragments on the lagging strand are called Okazaki fragments

Q

Telomerase

A
  • replicates the telomeres(end of the strand)
  • it extends the strand so that another primer can be layed down and elongated
  • — there is a little extra genetic info but nothing is lost
  • the telomeres get shorter and shorter over cell division until you eventually start to lose genetic information
  • doesnt happen inprokaryotes bc there is no ends

Prokaryotes

A

Pol I- replaces rna primers and dna repair.
Exonuclease activity:3’-5’ and 5’-3’ exonuclease.

PolIII- elongation
Exonuclease activity: 3’-5’
