DNA: (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) (LESSON 5) Flashcards
molecule made up of amino acids. They are the basis of body structures
PROTEIN
the “blueprint of the cell” commands what proteins should be used in order to build a cell. Essential macromolecule that is made up of nucleotides.
DNA
containing a very large number of atoms
MACROMOLECULE
basic building block of nucleic acids.
NUCLEOTIDES
Acts as an interpreter to the DNA
RNA (Ribonucleic Acid)
are a set of 20 different molecules used to build proteins.
AMINO ACIDS
biological process of producing two identical replicas of DNA from one original DNA molecule.
DNA REPLICATION
unwound by an enzyme called helicase
Unwinding
serves as a starting point for DNA synthesis.
Priming
bind to the primer and begin adding nucleotides to the growing DNA strand in a 5’ to 3’ direction
Elongation
check the base pairing to ensure that it is correct.
Proofreading
the two identical DNA molecules separate and are packaged into separate cells during cell division.
