Diuretics: mannitol and acetazolamide Flashcards
1
Q
Mannitol
A
Osmotic, increases urine flow
decreased intracranial/intraocular pressure
2
Q
Mannitol use
A
Use: drug overdose, to lower IC/IO pressure
3
Q
Manitol toxicity
A
Toxicity: pulm edema, dehydration, contraindicated in anuria, CHF
4
Q
Acetazolamide
A
Carbonic anhydrase inhibitor
Causes self limited NaHCO3 diuresis and reduction in total body HCO3- stores
5
Q
Acetazolamide use
A
Glaucoma urinary alkalinization metabolic alkalosis, altitude sickness (resp alkalosis) pseudotumor cerebri
(makes urine basic, body acidic)
6
Q
Acetazolamide toxicity
A
Hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis;
paresthesias,
NH3 toxicity,
sulfa allergy
“ACIDazolamide causes ACIDosis”
