Parasites
Name the 2 types of disease transmission and what they are
Vertical transmission - via the placenta from the mother to the foetus or via ingestion of milk
Horizontal transmission- any other way that disease is transmitted e.g. direct contact
Examples of disease transmission
Direct contact
Indirect contact
Aerosols/droplets
Vectors
Faecal oral route
Ingestion
Fomites
Zoonoses
Carriers
What is a vector?
Something that passes on disease e.g. a tick - Lyme disease
What is a fomite?
Inanimate objects/materials that can carry disease e.g. dog toys
What is a zoonoses?
Zoonotic diseases are diseases that can be spread from animals to humans or from humans to animals
