Disaster Recovery - Deep Dive Flashcards
What is Resiliency?
Ability of a workload to recover from infrastructure or service disruptions, dynamically acquire computing resources to meet demand and mitigate disruptions such as misconfigs or transient network issues.
- Resilience = Disaster Recovery & Availability
- DR = RTO & ROP
- Availability = MTBF/MTTR
What is DR and how is it related to resiliency?
DR is a part of the resiliency strategy
Concerns how your workload responds when a disaster strikes.
Based on organization’s business objective - defined by RTO and RPO.
What is a disaster?
Disaster - an event that causes serious negative impact to your business.
What’s the difference between DR and Availability?
DR = measures objectives for one-time events Availability = measures values over a period of time.
Availability focuses on components of a solution -e.g. multiple EC2 instances in different AZs.
DR focuses on an entire workload - e.g. standby system in a different region for failing over.
