Q

What makes an aircraft directionally stable/unstable?

A

Biggest factors for stability is vertical stabiliser.
RAF creates force on VS which yaw aircraft’s back to RAF.
Ventral and dorsal Finns.

Fuselage, Aerodynamic force created by fuselage tends to yaw aircraft away from RAF. Decreases directional stability.

Sweep back, wing into RAF has more lift/drag. Yaws towards RAF, stable.
