What is Diffusion?
The spreading out of particles from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
Does diffusion happen in both gasses and solutions?
Yes
What difference does the size of the concentration gradient have to the speed of diffusion
The bigger the gradient the faster the diffusion
Why will a higher temperature increase the speed of diffusion
The particles have more energy
Dissolved substances can move in out and out of cells by diffusion but what do molecules have to be to do this ?
Very small
What is Osmosis?
The movement of water molecules across a partially permeable membrane from a region of higher water concentration to a region of lower water concentration.
What is a partially permeable membrane?
is just a membrane with very small holes in it
Which Way (in or out of the cell) does water go in Osmosis
Both
Where does a steady net flow of water molecules
Into the region where there is fewer water molecules.
