Q

The Rest-Stroke

A

The rest-stroke usually plays single tones on the guitar (1). When played, the tip of the finger maintains some tension, but remains flexible and relaxed (2). Prepare for the stroke by putting the tip of your finger on the string, then the actual stroke, and finally having the fleshy part of your finger push across the string while your fingernail catches the string and sets it vibrating (3). Your finger then finally comes to rest on the next lower string (4).
