Non-proliferative
-Early stage of the disease, less severe
Proliferative
- More advanced stage
- New blood vessels start to grow

- Usually retain normal eyesight
- Painless gradual reduction in central vision
- Haemorrhages may cause dark, painless floaters
- Severe haemorrhage can completely obscure vision

-Gold standard is dilated retinal photography

- Glycaemic control
- Blood pressure control
- Most do not need treatment
- Can get laser treatment
