 V1 cause vasoconstriction (hence vasopressin) and are located in the vascular smooth muscle. This response only occurs when ADH levels are high
 V2 receptors control water reabsorption of the kidney and are located in the tubular cells of the cortical collecting duct. These mechanisms are responsible for maintaining the osmolality of body fluids.
