Q

What are spiral fractures caused by?

A

Twisting injury- rotational force

->valid point which is interesting, in terms of child safety etc. always interesting to see how the parent describes the child as getting the fracture. If it’s a spiral fractures and the parent says something was dropped on the arm, this CANNOT happen

Q

Transverse fractures?

A

When bone is broken at an angle, often makes bone shorter as can shear down one side

Q

Complex fractues?

A

Bone is in several pieces

->more severe injury, lots of force

Q

What is meant by displacement of a #?

A

Bone has moved more than a few mm
Could be medial or lateral, or dorsal or volar

16
Q

How do you describe displacement?

A

Direction e.g. anterior, posterior, lateral, medial
What is happening distally relative to proximaly
% of diamater of bone e.g. bone is displaced 50%

17
Q

What would need to be described about rotation of a bone in a #?

A

If it’s internal or external rotation
