Purpose
•Taking and processing of x-rays of teeth and jaws
•X-rays are generated and pointed at the required area
•The finished x-ray is called a radiograph
•Used as a tool before treatment starts, to monitor progress and as a follow up
•Detecting tooth decay – particularly in approximal area

Radiopaque
Radiopaque –
•Dense materials appear lighter e.g. enamel, bone, materials used to restore teeth
•Absorb x-rays
Radiolucent
Radiolucent – less dense materials appear darker e.g. pulp and soft tissue
•X-rays pass through these materials more easily
