What is democracy ?
Democracy is the government in which people govern themselves directly or through representatives. It is formed out of two Greek words - demos meaning people and Keaton’s meaning rule.

The key elements of democracy are people’s participation , freedom to criticise and the right to get equal treatment.
What is the universal adult franchise ?
The right for every adult to vote irrespective of their race, religion, wealth, sex etc is called universal adult franchise.
Why are regular elections held ?
Regular elections are held to change the government if it is not efficient.
Explain briefly about political parties.
The organisation of people who have similar views on political issues is called a political party. The ruling party forms the government. The opposition are the parties which are not a part of the government. Coalition government has cooperation of two parties.
What are theft her forms of government exempt democracy ?
In monarchy, the king has absolute power. It is hereditary. Constitutional monarchy is where the King shares his power with the people of kingdom. In dictatorship , a small group of people have absolute power which is mostly obtained through force.
What are the equality rights ?
All citizens are equal before law and enjoy equal protection. All citizens are socially equal before the state. Untouchability is illegal. Nobody gets social privileges using titles.
Prove that equality is just formal.
Poor people don’t enjoy facilities which cost high. Dalits are still discriminated. This proves that equality is just formal.
Why do people struggle for equality ?
People struggle for equality hoping that they get actual equality as a result. Suitable example for this statement is the TMS organisation.
Does social inequality exist in other countries ?
Yes.
