cytoskelenton Flashcards
function
• The cytoskeleton role is to provide the cells
shape and adapt the shape, make the cell
physically robust and the organise the internal
structures
what does it contain
• Cells contain a network of fine
filaments/fibres that make up the
cytoskeleton:
– Microfilaments
– intermediate filaments
what are they involved in
Variously involved in:
– Cellular support
– Maintaining cell shape
– Movement of a cell
– Movement within a cell
– Cell division
microfilament function
– Maintain the shape of the cell (found under the cell
surface membrane
– Movement of the cell
intermediate filament function
– Provide mechanical strength
– Hold the nucleus in place
microtubles
Move organelles around the cell e.g. secretory vesicles
– Form the spindle fibres – which move chromosomes
during mitosis and meiosis
