What happened in the Conquest of the Medes?

A

[According to the Nabonidus chronicles]
- In 550 Cyrus won a conflict against the Medes (Astyages was king)
- We do not know why Astyages lead an army against the Persians but it is important to note that his army mutanied

[According to Herodotus]
- Herodotus’tale has a lot of themes of common folktales
- the account begins when Cyrus was born
- Due to a ect (farmer, boy, skin chair, Harpagus convinced them to mutany for Cyrus, Cyrus kept Astyages

Recound the Conquest of Lydia

A

[According to Herodotus]
- Creosus (King of Lydia) felt threatened by Persia and decided to attack (He went to the Delphic orical and they told him a great empire would fall if he attacked Persia - its was his lol)
- They met across the river, before they fought Cyrus sent a messenger to the ionians asking them to detach from the army, they refused
- The battle was inconclusive
- Croesus withdrew for the winter as he needed bigger forces, he then disbands his forces for the winter. And sent messages to his allies
- Cyrus however crossed the river and to counter the Lydia’s great cavalry the Persians sent Camels to the front.
- Creosus then get sent to Sardus where they prepare for the seige
- The Persians managed to conquer Sardis before the Spartans set sail to help
