- Weakens ciliary muscle contraction (loss of accommodation)
- Dilates pupil (mydriasis)
- Causes ciliary muscle paralysis (cycloplegia)

A
- Corneal ulcer
- Uveitis
- Cycloplegic refraction (dilation of the eyes in the clinic) - primary use
- Off label: used in hospice to decrease drooling, lacrimation
