Cyber security lesson 1 Flashcards
What is cyber security?
To defend internet-connected devices and services from malicious attacks by hackers, spammers, and cybercriminals.
Security Objectives
Confidentiality
Integrity
Availability
Confidentiality
The principle of confidentiality assert that only authorized parties can access sensitive information and functions.
Integrity
The principles of integrity assert that only authorized people can alter, add, or remove sensitive information and functions.
Availability
The principles of availability assert that systems, functions and data must be available on-demand according to agreed-upon parameters based on levels of service.
What is a node?
Each of the devices on the network can be thought of as a node;a node refers to a point or joint where a connection takes place
What is a fiber-optic cable
they transfer data signals in the form of light and travel hundreds of miles significantly faster than those used in traditional electrical cables –higher banwidth
What is a coax cable?
A coax cable is primarily made of copper and transmits data through electricity.
What is a MAC address?
MAC address is a unique identifier assigned by device manufacturers to a network interface controller (NIC) for communications in a network.
What is a NIC?
NIC is a computer hardware component that connects a computer to a computer network
What is an IP address?
a means of identification of nodes that are connected to the internet or intranet
What is a hub?
a distribution center that spilts a network connection into multiple computers. Distributes info
What is a server?
Main computer that acts as a host and provides data, software, etc. to other terminals linked with it
What is Shared data?
The file that servers provide to clients such as email data files, printer access programs.
What is Network Interface Unit?
is an interpreter that is utilized in the process of establishing communication between the server and the workstations and is a device that is attached to each workstation and server.
