Signed of Respect from one person to another. From a Junior Personnel to a Senior Personnel.
What does a Salute Reflect
Military Bearing of unit, self and service.
What angle (degrees) do you salute
45 degree angle
How many Paces do you salute

When can you salute with your left?
When holding a boatswains pipe, when injured
Who initiates and drops slate first?
Junior or enlisted personal.
When walking by or with a senior officer where do you position yourself?
To the left. If walking by a senior officer, pass to the left and say “at your leave” or salute. When walking with a senior officer you salute with him.
When to pop to attention
- Orders/awards/citations
- Semper Paratus
- Taps
- Pledge of Allegiance
US Flag is known by: Colors, Standard and National Ensign (not sure about the third one). Describe Each.

- Colors - When carried by foot
- Standard - When Displayed on vehicle or aircraft
When to salute during colors
- Salute at first note (of star spangled banner not drum roll) and drop at last note ( of music not carry on horn)
During Colors face the flag and salute.
** if in formation, senior most officer will salute for formation. Formation will be in Position of Attention
When is colors ?
Always at 0800 (for sunrise) and local sunset time. If no sunset then perform at 2200/ TAPS

- Attention to Colors
- Carry on

When to not call Attention on Deck
- Mess hall
- Most Senior Officer is already present in the room
- If nature of work doesn’t permit
- large groups / congested areas
