What is critical equipment + planned maintenance?
+ It is classed as critical if failure of it brings about serious risk to life, property or the marine environment
+ Bigger the list the more hassle it is when operating the vessel
+ Have to prioritise its maintenance
+ Have guaranteed spares supply
+ Risk assess when the maintenance will be carried out
+ Report procedures for the failure of the equipment which may well stop the vessel

What items require general maintenance?
+LSA and FFE
+ Weekly = rescue boat, life rafts + HRU’s, General Alarm, GMDSS, SCBA pressures
+ Monthly = EPIRB, SARTS, GMDSS VHF’s, Immersion Suits, Fire Extinguishers, Pyrotechnics, Life buoys, SCBA
+ Quarterlies = Smoke hoods, EEBD’s, PPE, Lifejackets, Muster Lists, Fire Plans
What is the continuous synopsis record?
The continuous synopsis record (CSR) is a form of logbook that stays with the ship for it’s whole life, and records all changes of owner, flag, name, class, ISM etc. The ship must keep its copy of the whole CSR onboard even when it transfer to another flag statue, is sold to another owner, is taken over by another bareboat charter or another company assumes the responsibility of the ship operation.
Important Information about the CSR (Continuous Synopsis Record)
+ Regulation comes from SOLAS XI (Enhanced Safety) (Read it!)
+ It is a way of stopping money laundering - Safety and Security
+ It is issued by the RSS - Registrar of Shipping and Seamen
+ If there is a change to any of the vessels details then you complete ‘Form 2’ and the RSS re-issue the CSR with the next consecutive number
+ Continuous synopsis record (CSR) is issued by the Administration of the ship / Flag state
+ The continuous synopsis record shall always be kept onboard ship and shall be available for inspection at all times.
What details should be present in the CSR?
+ Name of Ship
+ Port of Registry
+ Ships Identification number
+ Date on which the ship was registered with the state
+ Flag State
+ Registered owner and address
+ Registered Bareboat charterers and addresses
+ Classification Society
+ Company, its registered address and the address from where safety management activities are carried out
+ name of the Administration or the contracting government or the recognised organisation which has issued the document of compliance, specified the ISM code to the company operating the ship
+ Name of the body which has carried out the audit to issue the document of compliance
+ Name of the Administration or the contracting government or the recognised organisation which has issued the international ship security certificate, specified in the ISPS code to the ship and the name of the body which has carried out the verification of the bassi of which the certificate was issued
+ The date of expiry of the ships registration with the state
+ Any changes made related to the above mentioned points should be mentioned in the continuous synopsis record. Official the record should be in English, Spanish or French language; however, a translation in the language of the Administration may be provided.
