Critical Appraisal Flashcards
1
Q
What is validity?
A
being able to accurately differentiate pathology from normal distress
related to false positives
2
Q
Reliability
A
chance of the diagnosis being the same at time A and at time B by professionals/ classification systems - needs replicablity
Concordance between classification systems - ie ICD and DSM V
does not necessarily mean it is valid - just because it can be replicated doesn’t mean it is correct
3
Q
Comorbidity vs. Consanguinity vs. Co-occcurence
A
Comorbidity = having 2(+) simultaneous Dx
- presence of another clinically relevant phenomenon separate to the primary illness
- Venn diagram with NO overlap
Consanguinity = overlap sxs of 2(+) conditions occur frequently –> should be regarded as one entity
- Venn diagram with some overlap
Co-Occurrence
- Venn Diagram with 80% (much) overlap
- can be either condition but with uncertainty
- ie. Schizoaffective = BPAD or SCZ
ie. MADD = anxiety and depression
