Constitutional
What is the role of the monarch
He is the head of the state.He has the right to govern but his role is ceremonial and the real power lies with His Majesty’s Government- prime minister, cabinet, house of commons and house of lords.
What does the king do based on Royal Prerogative
Summons/dissolve parliament
Gives Royal Assent to Bills passed by Parliament.
Writes thr King’s Speech outlining Bills to be presented to Parliament
Declares War
Creates knighthoods and other honours
Appoint senior church of england clergy, judges, police chief constables and diplomats.
What roles does he have
he is head of the executive, legislature and judiciary
Commander in chief of the armed forces
Supreme Governor of the church of england
Head of the commonwealth (head of state for 15 out of 53 memebers
Head of Privy Council- former and current Cabinet ministers
how is the king funded
The Sovereign Grant- funded by taxpayers. Set at 25% of the income from the Crown Estate.
The Privy purse- personal pot of money derived from the Duchy of Lancaster estates.
