Q

Oculomotor Nerve

A

Three. Eye muscle control. Innervates all but 2 of the eye ball muscles. The parasympathetic component serves as the efferent limb of the pupillary light reflex. (Clinical) Dilated pupil = mydriasis; drooping of the upper eyelid (ptosis); eye turns down and out (strabismus)

Q

Trigeminal Nerve

A

Five. Main sensory nerve for face, teeth, mouth, nasal cavity, and dura mater)

Has 3 branches
V1 = ophthalmic nerve
V2 = Maxillary nerve
V3 = Mandibular nerve

(Clinical). Impaired sensory function on affected side of face. Weakness in muscles of mastication w/ mandible deiating towards side of the lesion. Loss of corneal reflex on affected side. Trigeminal neuralgia is a pain syndrome severe enough to cause grimacing (tic).

Vagus Nerve

A

Ten. Mixed Nerve. Main parasympathetic nerve to centralized organs of the body. It’s one of the two that leave the head. It has branched into the pharynx. (Clinical) Hoarse voice (dysphonia); unclear articulation of speech (dysarthria); loss of voice (aphonia). Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia). Loss of gag reflex. Uvula deviates away from the side of injury. Bilateral dmg –> Gastroparesis.
