correlations Flashcards
1
Q
what is a correlation?
A
way of establishing whether there is a relationship between 2 variables. We analyse this by drawing a scattergraph.
2
Q
2 types of correlations?
A
- positive
- negative
3
Q
what’s correlation coefficient?
A
statistical method for assessing strength. number the represents the strength of relationship between 2 variables
4
Q
1?
A
perfect positive
5
Q
-1
A
perfect negative
6
Q
0?
A
no relationship
7
Q
advantages ?
A
- allows to see strength and relationship
- can be used when variables cannot be manipulated because it would be unethical or not possible
8
Q
disadvantages?
A
- don’t show cause and effect people often misinterpret relationship and assume cause and effect. this is because there may be other unknown variable that cause both research variables to change.
