  2. The practice address
  3. Name of patient
  4. Date of issue
  5. Date of expiry
  6. Optom signature
  7. Brand name of the lenses
  8. Base curve
  9. Total diameter
  10. Back vertex power
  11. Must state it is a contact lens rx.

Which patients are classified as high risk?

A
  1. Poor compliance
  2. Extended wear
  3. Continuous wear
  4. Diabetes (they have higher risk of infection)
  5. Smokers
  6. History which may put them at higher risk
  7. Keratoconus
  8. Ortho-k
  9. Scleral contact lenses
  10. Dry eye symptoms

You may extend trial period out to two lens life cycles
Could be up to 6 months for others

What is the process/routine at an aftercare appointment?

A
  1. Patient interview
  2. Assessment of vision
  3. Overrefraction and binocular balance
  4. Assess lens fit
  5. Observe Px remove lens
  6. Slit lamp assessment of anterior segment and tear film
  7. Summary of outcomes and re-educaiton of lens care and wear

Purpose of aftercare appointment?

A
  • Identify difficulties with eyes and lenses
  • Assess satisfaction with lenses
  • Check patient compliance and lens use and care
  • Review lens fit and determine if modification required
  • Monitor ocular condition, review for phsiological changes
  • Re-educate and minimise risk
