refers to divine inspiration (but not explicitly christian)
sees maxentius as a tyrant
used past stonework of other emperors - connection between himself and the past

well protected, natural harbour etc
very diplomatic, doesnt tear down old settlement
doesnt force people to move, offers wealth though

aqueducts, circus etc

A

dies 337
very similar to diocletian- able to die with relative peace/stability
majority religion christianity
problems of tetrarchy - doesnt account of powerhungry men
3 sons kill of all other male family members before turning on each other
constantius left as sole emperor

officials largely in control of ascension
movement of barbarian tribe - goths, vandals etc
