informed consent is assumed at ages 16+ however someone under 16 with perceived intelligence and capacity to consent can provide consent.

mother has automatic right to consent
father only if name is on the birth ceritificate or they are still married.

can retain proper memory
can properly act and decide upon the matter
can understand and comprehend the situation
can properly communicate
can give a reasoned decision
what are the 9 protected characteristics and when may they be challeged?
age sexual orientation gender gender reassignment disability marriage/civil partnership religion and belief race and ethnicity pregnancy and maternity
can be targeted if genuinely experiencing lack of services, low group participation or have a record of disadvantages
