Connective Tissue Functions and Locations Flashcards
Function of Blood?
Transport/transportation
What are the bones functions?
- Hematopoiesis
- Stores Calcium
- Provides levers for muscles to attach
- Protects
What is mesenchyme’s function?
Gives rise to all connective tissue
Function of Dense Irregular
Withstand tension, provide strength, bind and support.
Function of Dense Regular
Attach muscle to bone and attach bone to bone
Function of Adipose
Stores fat and insulates
Function of Reticular
Provides support to other cells - forms stroma
Function of Areolar
Stores fluid
Function of Hyaline Cartilage
Support, resist, and compresses/compression
Function of Fibrocartilage
Provide strength and absorb shock (compression)
Function of Elastic Cartilage
Structure and maintain shape w/flexibility
What are the locations for dense irregular?
Submucosa of digestive tract and fibrous organ capsules
What are the locations for dense regular?
Tendons and ligaments
What are the locations for areolar?
Attaches skin to underlying organs
What are the locations for adipose?
Found under the skin and around organs as a cushion
What are the locations for reticular?
Lymph nodes and spleen
What are the locations for bone?
Patella
What are the locations for fibrocartilage?
Intervertebral discs, meniscus, and pubic symphysis
What are the locations for Hyaline cartilage?
End of nose, fetal skeleton, larynx, costal (attaching ribs to sternum), rings of trachea, and articular.
What are the locations for elastic cartilage?
external ear and epiglottis
