Connective Tissue Flashcards
Areolar(loose) connective tissue
Gel like matrix with collagen and elastic fiber
Forms of layer to which epithelial cells may bind as in the papillary layer of the dermis
Reticular connective tissue
Forms, flexible, internal scaffolding that supports other types of cells
Dense, irregular connective tissue
Random arrangement of collagen bundles give the tissue structural strength to resist, tearing in all directions
Dense regular connective tissue
Parallel arrangement of collagen bundles gives a tissue great potential strength, in One Direction
Adipose tissue
Fat, functions as protective padding, thermal insulation energy storage
Hyaline cartilage
Very firm matrix containing collagen fibers this matrix is compressible, which allows the tissue to function as a shock absorber
Fibrocartilage
Major contains collagen, fiber like Hyaline cartilage but arrangement of fiber is more regular is a shock absorber with high tensile strength
Elastic cartilage
Greater number of elastic fiber, very flexible
Platelets
Blood clotting
Leukocytes
White blood cells
Erythrocytes
Red blood cells
Skeleton muscle
Voluntary, we consciously contract these muscles. muscle fibers are long, slender and lie parallel to each other
Smooth muscle
Located in the walls of Hollow organs
Fibers are tapered at each end
Involuntary
Cardiac muscle
Only found a heart wall, pumping blood through our blood vessels, fibers are branch and have a single central nucleus involuntary
Neuron
Capable of generating and conducting electrical impulses
