Q

What are the 4 ligaments that support the radiocarpal joint?

A
  • dorsal radiocarpal ligament (stabilizes the joint, restricts flexion)
  • palmer radiocarpal ligament (connects the radius to the carpal bones which stabilize the wrist)
  • palmer ulnocarpal ligament (prevents palmer translocation of the ulnar carpal bones, & allows radial deviation of the wrist, & limits ulnar deviation)
  • radial collateral carpal ligament (stabilizes the wrist, limits radial deviation)

Q

What is a clinical finding of the metacarpophalangeal joint?

A
  • gamekeeper’s thumb or skiers thumb is a fairly common injury of the ulnar collateral ligament of the MCP of the thumb
  • the most common way to injure this is by falling onto an outstretched arm with an abducted thumb
