Primary Source
immediate, first-hand accounts of a topic, from people who had a direct connection
Secondary Source
one step removed from primary sources
created by someone who did not experience first-hand or participate in the events or conditions you’re researching
Context/Historical Circumstances
the information about the period, the place, and the events that created, influenced, or formed the backdrop to the historic resources
Point of View (of a document)
It is important because people aren’t always reliable and many people could have had many different opinions
Full perspective of events (full picture), both sides and their views, understanding others, etc.
Intended Audience (of a document)
the person, or group of people, who were originally intended to see or use it.
Purpose (of a document)
the source asks why it was produced, and whether it gives a particular message
Cause and Effect
every event has a cause, and is itself the cause of subsequent events, which may therefore be considered its effect(s), or consequences
Compare and Contrast
ask the writer to focus on the similarities and differences of two elements or ideas
Egalitarian
a philosophical perspective that emphasizes equality and equal treatment across gender, religion, economic status, and political beliefs
