Composite Filling Flashcards
What is the first thing you do when preparing a tooth to be restored
Put a matrix between the tooth being restored and the adjacent tooth
Why do we use a matrix
It prevents two teeth from being bonded together
Why is it important not to bond two teeth together
Could result in secondary caries
Plaque can get trapped meaning the patient can not carry out interdental cleaning
What should be done after the caries has been removed and the cavity is ready to be filled with composite
Etch the area
What is acid etch made up of
30% phosphoric acid
What does acid etch do
Makes holes in the enamel giving the composite something to bond to
Why should the washings of the acid etch quickly be aspirated
To ensure that there is no damage caused to the surrounding soft tissues
What is done after acid etch
Prime and bond is used
How long should each acid etch left for
20 seconds
What is prime and bond
Adhesive
What is done after the prime and bond has been placed
UV light is put on the bond and then the composite is placed
What shape is the instrument used to shape the composite
Flat plastic
How long is the composite cured with UV light for
20 seconds
What is used to finish a restoration
Polishing discs
What colour of polishing discs should be used first
Dark
